Penderita kanker payudara di Indonesia semakin bertambah setiap tahun. Pada tahun 2005 jumlahnya 7.850 kasus, meningkat pada tahun 2006, jumlah penderita kanker menjadi 8.328 kasus, tahun 2007 sebanyak 8.277 kasus. Hal yang sama terjadi di RSUPN Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo Jakarta, tercatat sebanyak 318 pasien kanker payudara yang dirawat inap, 5824 pasien yang berobat ke poli bedah pada tahun 2011, pada tahun 2012 tercatat 253 di rawat inap dan 5597 pasien yang berobat ke poli bedah (Profil Kesehatan Indonesia, 2010; Rekam RSCM, 2012). Data tersebut membuktikan bahwa kanker payudara masih menjadi masalah kesehatan bagi perempuan di Indonesia.
